From 1899 to the end of the 78 era: 1899-1952 - the ultimate collection of great historical singers. The recordings are all taken from the original 4 volumes of The Record of Singing, issued by EMI on LP between 1977 and 1989. Details of recording dates, venues, producers & engineers are given where known, plus the original 78 rpm matrix and catalogue numbers: some accompanists / orchestras are anonymous. All the transfers of tracks have been newly re-processed at Abbey Road to improve the sound even further using the latest audio restoration technology. Gramophone Awards Winner in the Historical Category 1977, 1979, 1986 & 1999 & Finalist in Historic Reissue Category 2009.
